Spring Break Is On A Whole New Level

Michelle Waters from Scrapper’s Snips and Stitches, shared this photo of a pear tree in her front yard today. Isn’t it gorgeous? It is obvious that spring is definitely making its way in and it seems pretty early this year after a kind of strange winter. It makes me wonder if summer is going to roll in early also, and be long and hot? In 2020, the spring equinox falls on Thursday, March 19, which is earlier than it has been in over a century. It is usually the 20th or the 21st. This marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. After the spring equinox, the Northern Hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, which is why we start to get longer, sunnier days here in the United States. Interestingly, due to time zone differences, there isn’t a March 21 equinox in the mainland U.S. during the entire 21st century! We won’t see a March 21 equinox again until 2101.  To most, the spring equinox signals new beginnings and nature’s renewal.  In fact, the March full moon is called the Worm Moon because it is at a time when the worms are beginning to come out from the winter. The flowers are popping their heads up and we are feeling the need to get outdoors.  March is a time to start gardens and sow seeds in many regions.

Meanwhile, many states face a shortage of tourism dollars due to closures of Disney parks and other destinations and layoffs are a big concern. This is a difficult time for everyone, and worries are surging. There is good and bad in everything. Even this. Although it may be an obstacle in the road, there is new growth coming also. The earth is healing and many active measures are largely in place to combat many affects of this virus. For some, this is a wonderful opportunity to slow down, recharge and spend some quality, guilt-free time with your family.

If you are looking for things to do with your family, here a few ideas for you!
